We are a Society of volunteers — neighbors helping neighbors. Without our volunteers, the St. Vincent de Paul Society couldn’t accomplish its good work in Haverhill. There are a number of volunteer opportunities in which people can participate, depending on their interest and time availability. You don’t need to be a member of one of our parishes or even Catholic — you just need a caring heart and the desire to help others in your community.
Home Visits: Person-to-Person Serivce to the Poor
Families call our hotline, and our home visit teams go to the homes of the families and try to address their immediate financial needs such as overdue utility bills, problems with making rent, and anything else that might come up. We aim to promote self-sufficiency while being a caring listener and providing hope where there may otherwise be little. If you become a home visit volunteer, you will truly make an impact one someone’s life; chances are, it will also make a large positive impact on yours.
Thrift Stores/Clothing Distribution Centers
Our volunteers go through the many donated bags of clothing, sort the items by size and gender, then neatly fold and arrange them on labeled shelves.
We have many special events for which we need volunteers, such as walkers for the Friends of the Poor Walk 5k. Any special events for which we need volunteers will be listed on the homepage of this website.
